Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Behaviour eBooks & Digital Resources

Not sure where to start?
Whether you're dealing with resource guarding, fear, confidence, multi-dog tension or simply want to understand your dog better, these resources are designed to give you clarity first — so you can choose the right strategy for the dog in front of you.

Which dog behaviour eBook is right for me?

Start with the behaviour that is creating the biggest challenge in your everyday life. If your dog guards food, toys, spaces or people, choose the Resource Guarding eBook. If your dog is worried, hesitant or struggles with new experiences, Building Confidence and Resilience may be a better starting point. If there is tension or conflict between dogs living together, Restoring Harmony is designed specifically for multi-dog households.

Are these eBooks suitable for everyday dog guardians or are they written for professionals?
They are written so dog guardians can understand and use the information without needing a background in behaviour science. Professionals, foster homes and rescue volunteers may also find them useful as educational resources.
What training methods are used in your eBooks? My resources are based on humane, science-informed approaches to behaviour. Rather than focusing simply on stopping unwanted behaviour, I help you understand why the behaviour is happening and look at safety, stress, emotions, environment, learning history and practical skills that can help your dog.
Will an eBook tell me how to stop my dog's behaviour? The goal is bigger than simply stopping behaviour. Behaviour is information. My eBooks help you understand what your dog may be communicating and give you practical strategies for creating safer situations, developing useful skills and supporting behaviour change.
Can an eBook replace working with a dog behaviour consultant? For mild concerns, prevention and education, an eBook can be an excellent place to start. More complex behaviours involving aggression, biting, severe anxiety, significant resource guarding or conflict between dogs may require an individualized assessment and behaviour plan.
What if my dog has several behaviour problems? That's actually very common. Behaviours such as reactivity, guarding, anxiety, difficulty settling and conflict don't always exist independently. Stress, emotional regulation, health, environment and learning can influence several behaviours at the same time. Start with the issue affecting safety or quality of life most significantly.
Are your eBooks just about dog training exercises? No. Teaching skills is only one piece of behaviour change. You'll also learn about your dog's emotions, stress, environment, management, communication, confidence and ways to set your dog up for successful learning.
Can I use these resources with a rescue dog? Yes. Many of the concepts involving safety, predictability, confidence, choice, decompression and gradual learning can be especially valuable for dogs adjusting to a new home. The individual dog should always determine the pace rather than a predetermined timeline.
Can these eBooks help prevent behaviour problems too? Absolutely. You don't have to wait until something becomes a serious problem. Understanding early communication, creating positive associations and teaching useful life skills can help prevent smaller concerns from becoming well-rehearsed behaviour patterns.
My dog growls or guards things. Is the Resource Guarding eBook appropriate? Yes. Your Resource Guarding eBook is specifically designed to help guardians and trainers understand guarding around food, toys and other valuable resources, including factors such as stress, genetics and environment. I have dogs that sometimes argue or become tense with one another.
Which resource should I choose? Restoring Harmony: A Workbook for Multi-Dog Households in Conflict is specifically designed for households experiencing struggles between dogs and provides a workbook format to help guardians work through those challenges.
My dog is fearful or lacks confidence. Where should I start? Building Confidence and Resilience in Dogs is an easy-to-follow guide focused on positive reinforcement, calm routines and emotional safety to help dogs become more confident and resilient.
Do any of the eBooks include additional support? Yes. Some resources include additional materials. For example, your Resource Guarding eBook includes bonus tutorial videos and an option to add private Zoom support, while your Confidence and Resilience resource includes access to a free 15-minute call.
How do I access my eBook after purchasing it? Your digital resources are accessed through your Walkabout Canine Consulting online learning area. Because some resources contain additional lessons, videos or support rather than only a standalone PDF, I'd describe them as digital resources rather than promising that every purchase is simply a PDF download. What if I still don't know what my dog needs? You don't have to figure that out on your own. A free Discovery Call can help determine whether an eBook, digital course, consultation or more individualized behaviour support is the best next step.
