When it comes to your dog’s behaviour, how you teach matters.
There’s a lot of information available—some of it helpful, some of it confusing, and some of it outdated.
My approach is rooted in science-based, humane, and ethical training methods designed to help dogs not just behave differently… but feel and respond differently.
🔹 What This Means
I use a concept-based, game-based approach to behaviour training.
This means we focus on:
- how your dog thinks
- how your dog feels
- how your dog learns to make choices
Rather than simply teaching commands, we build skills that help your dog navigate real-life situations with more clarity, confidence, and calmness.
🔹 Why This Matters
Behaviour doesn’t exist in isolation.
Dogs are constantly learning from:
- their environment
- their past experiences
- their emotioal state
If we only focus on stopping behaviour without understanding these factors, change is often short-lived or inconsistent.
That’s why my work focuses on lasting behaviour change—not quick fixes.
🔹 The Role of Emotion in Behaviour
Many behaviour challenges—such as resource guarding, reactivity, or multi-dog tension—are influenced by how a dog feels.
In my work, we:
- reduce stress and pressure
- build predictability and safety
- create positive associations over time
When a dog feels more secure, their behaviour naturally begins to change.
🔹 Concept-Based Training:
Teaching Dogs to Think
Concept training focuses on building underlying skills, such as: engagement and disengagement flexibility and adaptability confidence and resilience the ability to pause and make choices These concepts allow dogs to: 👉 respond instead of react 👉 think instead of panic 👉 make better decisions in real-life situations
🔹 A Game-Based Approach (Simple, Effective, Practical)
Training doesn’t need to feel rigid or overwhelming.
I use simple, strategic games to:
- teach skills in a clear and enjoyable way
- reduce pressure for both dogs and guardians
- create repetition without frustration
These games are designed to fit into everyday life, making training more natural and sustainable.
🔹 Humane and Ethical Training
My work is aligned with humane, fear-free, and ethical training practices.
This means:
- no use of pain, intimidation, or punishment
- no suppression of communication (like growling)
- respect for the dog’s emotional experience
Instead, we focus on:
✔ understanding behaviour
✔ building trust
✔ guiding change through reinforcement and clarity
🔹 Why This Approach Works T
his approach works because it:
- addresses the root of behaviour
- supports the dog’s emotional wellbeing
- builds real-life skills—not just obedience
- creates lasting change over time
It also helps you, as the guardian, feel more confident and capable in guiding your dog.
🔹 What This Looks Like in Real Life
Rather than telling a dog what not to do, we:
- show them what to do instead
- build patterns they can rely on
- create predictable outcomes
Over time, this leads to:
- calmer responses better decision-making improved relationships within the home
🔹 A Note on Progress Meaningful behaviour change takes time.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress.
With the right guidance, structure, and consistency, dogs can learn to navigate their world in a more calm and confident way.
